Instagram Carousel Posts Can Now Have Captions For Each Slide

Instagram now lets creators add a separate caption to each slide in a carousel post.

Instagram carousels just got more useful for people who treat a multi-photo post like a visual story, not a single image dump.

Instagram says users can now add a different caption to each slide in a carousel. In an official Instagram post, the company framed the feature around “photo dumps” and slide-by-slide captions. The feature is designed for posts where every photo or video needs its own context, location, credit, joke, product note, or explanation. Instead of forcing one long caption to carry the whole carousel, each slide can now have its own text.

Instagram also shared the same flow on X: create a carousel, tap the caption area, toggle on multiple captions, then write a unique caption for each slide. That should make the feature easy to find once it reaches your account.

Why Carousel Captions Matter

This is a small interface change, but it could change how creators build carousel posts. A photographer can explain each frame. A travel creator can label each stop. A brand can attach details to individual products. A news or education account can make each slide feel closer to a mini-card with its own context.

It also lines up with Instagram’s broader push to make feed posts more flexible. The app already lets carousel posts include up to 20 photos or videos. Pairing that limit with slide-by-slide captions gives creators more room to sequence a post without cramming every detail into one block of text.

The trade-off is obvious too. More caption boxes can mean better storytelling, but they can also create more work for creators. The feature will probably be most useful when the carousel actually needs different context for each slide, not when a simple photo post is being stretched into homework.

Part Of A Busy Instagram Update Run

Instagram has been shipping a steady run of smaller control and creation updates. Tech My Money recently covered Instagram’s new tools for customizing main feed recommendations, and the carousel-caption change fits the same pattern: give users more control without rebuilding the whole app.

The feature is rolling out now, but not every account may see it immediately. If the multiple-captions toggle is missing, the update may simply not have reached that account yet.

For everyday users, this will mostly make vacation dumps and event posts clearer. For creators, social teams, and small businesses, it could turn the carousel into a more structured storytelling format. The best version of the feature is simple: each slide gets the caption it actually needs.
